Sebring Local Schools partnered with the United Way of Youngstown and other community supporters to provide 220 backpacks at the “Back to School Bash” in early August.
The third annual celebration was held at Sebring’s local pool, with more than 350 people in attendance, including students in grades Pre-K to 12 and more than 100 families – a record high for the past three years.
“We’re so grateful to see how this event continues to grow each year, and our staff and faculty have the opportunity to welcome and reconnect with our students and their families,” said Nichole Hanley, principal at B.L. Miller Elementary.
Partners making the event a continued success were the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Women United and Success After 6 programs, as well as The American Legion Post 76 and their Youth Foundation. Our partners were able to provide 220 backpacks, as well as school supplies for all students in grades K-6 at B. L. Miller Elementary School. P.I.E. also provided free concessions to all families.
“The generous support we receive from our Trojan staff, volunteers and community partners continues to amaze me each year,” says Jill Dennis, Sebring Local School District’s Family Engagement Coordinator and United Way Success After Six District Coordinator. “This year we also had our partners present from Alta Behavioral Healthcare and the YWCA of Alliance to speak with families and share resources.”
Additional supporters of the event included Partners in Education at B.L. Miller Elementary, the Sebring pool staff, Sebring Parks & Recreation, Sebring staff and administration, and community volunteers.
